Xuanhanosaurus (SHWAN-HUAH-SAWR-us), is a theropod dinosaur of the Middle Jurassic. It was approximately 6 metres (20 ft) in length and 2 metres (7 ft) in height, with a weight of 250 kg (550 lb). |
The dinosaur was found in China's Lower Shaximiao Formation, part of the Dashanpu Formation. Xuanhanosaurus had unusually long arms for a theropod, which were substantially reduced in later theropods such as Tyrannosaurus rex. Xuanhanosaurus was a bipedal, meat-eating dinosaur who had a stiff tail. An incomplete fossil of this tetanuran theropod dinosaur was found in what is now China. The type species is X. qilixiaensis. Xuanhanosaurus was named by Dong in 1984. |
