Wuerhosaurus (woo-AYR-hoh-SAWR-us) was a Chinese stegosaur from Early Cretaceous times.
|
It was lower to the ground than most other stegosaurs; scientists believe that this was an adaptation to let it feed on low-growing vegetation. Unlike Stegosaurus, Wuerhosaurus had shorter, rounded plates, whose purpose is debated. Wuerhosaurus, like other stegosaurs, had a thagomizer, which featured four bony spikes that would most likely have been used for self-defense. It was about 26 feet (8.1 metres) long and was similar to Stegosaurus, but had smaller plates and front legs, wider hips, and a shorter body. It was a plant-eater that lived during the Valanginian-Albian ages, about 135-120 million years ago. Wuerhosaurus was named in 1973 by the Chinese dinosaurologist Dong Zhiming. Length - 27 ft (8.1 m) long |
