Indosuchus Characteristics

Like most theropods, Indosuchus was a bipedal carnivore. It was possibly 20 feet (6 metres) long, and had a crested skull, flattened on the top. Indosuchus had powerful hind legs and could run quite swiftly. The fore limbs were short and equipped with sharp claws. Its tail was long and stiff and was used to counter balance. Indosuchus had powerful jaws which were equipped with many serrated sharp teeth.

Because only some skull elements have been found, Indosuchus placement has been somewhat erratic. Although it is now somewhat firmly placed within the Abelisauridae. Indosuchus has been also grouped with Allosaurs and Tyrannosaurs. The discovery of other abelisaurid species like Carnotaurus has helped clarify its position.

Indosuchus was named by von Huene and Matley in 1933.
